Piscataway is a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township’s population was 56,044. The community is ethnically diverse with 24,642 Caucasians, 10,254 African Americans, 104 Native Americans, 12,532 Asian and 4,002 Hispanics. On June 1st 2018 Piscataway began a project under a contract signed with Green Eastern Energy that 20% of the energy the township use for municipal purposes will come from environmentally friendly, renewable sources. This is said to save more than 4.3 million kilowatts of fossil fuel-created electricity over the subsequent two years.
The Middlesex County is taking an initiative to manage, control and defeat the opioid abuse crisis currently faced by a county resident. According to a report issues the New Jersey State Attorney General in 2017, Middlesex County is among the top 30 towns in the state producing record high numbers of drugs abuse. According to the The New Jersey State Medical Examiner’s Office, Middlesex County had the highest growth rate for deaths associated with heroin, for 2014. Between 2010 and 2014, Middlesex County experiences a 420% rise in deaths attributed to a heroin overdose. During that same period, Middlesex County saw a population growth of only 3.3%.
